OWASSO, Okla. — OWASSO -- Owasso Police say detectives are investigating an altercation that happened Monday at the West High School campus.

Two 14-year-old female students got into a fight that resulted in one of the students needing medical attention. Police, fire, and medical personnel were called to the school to treat the injured student. The altercation then carried over to social media later that night.

One student allegedly threatened to hurt the other student in a post on social media. Those threats then led to a myriad of rumors that spread like wildfire.

Owasso Police Lt. Nick Boatman said they are investigating the fight and the threats.

“We’re trying to figure out about these alleged threats that were made on social media, so (there are) lots of things the investigators are sifting through to figure out what’s real and what’s just rumor,” Boatman said.

Detectives have made contact with all people involved and say there are no known threats against the other students or the school.

“There’s so many rumors that have filtered through the school or been online, posted online, that we’re trying to find out about these alleged threats that have been on social media,” Boatman said.

More officers will join the school resource officers today to make sure everything is safe.
