UPDATE: Forecasters with the National Weather Service in Tulsa surveyed the storm damage in Owasso Wednesday and said they found high-end EF-1 damage.
EF-1 tornadoes have wind speeds between 86-110 miles per hour.
The Owasso City Council voted to declare a state of emergency, which they said ensures city staff can deliver a timely response to the community’s needs and make it necessary to receive state and federal assistance should assistance be necessary.
Officials say a tornado left a path of destruction, roughly half-a-mile wide and 11 miles long, from the intersection of Highway 75 and 66th Street North to the intersection of Highway 20 and Highway 169.
City officials say, so far, no injuries have been reported in connection to the storms.
Owasso police said damage has been reported at the following locations:
- Bailey Ranch: Structural and fencing damage
- Carrington Pointe: Roof damage north of 83rd St. N.
- Coffee Creek: Confirmed damage; extent TBD
- El Rio Vista: Damage to fencing and roofing
- Fairways: Significant damage
- Lake Valley: Confirmed damage; extent TBD
- Watercolours: Tree and siding damage
City of Owasso officials say the Bailey Ranch Golf Course is closed Wednesday for storm cleanup. There’s no word yet on when they plan to reopen.
Owasso Police say they’re securing neighborhoods to prevent any looting and also working on road closures so that power crews can remove any dangerous, live power lines and make repairs.
The City of Owasso says some businesses are offering a variety of free services to assist residents who are recovering from the storm. Those include:
- Tree damage assessment: Oklahoma Baptist Disaster Relief at 405-516-4822. Residents can also fill out a “request assistance” form at okdisasterhelp.org.
- Major debris cleanup and haul-off: Cattle Creek Removal (918-210-8411) and Junk Happens LLC (918-409-0828).
- Pet boarding: SAHO at 918-205-4295 and Family Animal Medicine at 918-609-6111 is offering free boarding days.
For those needing roof repairs, City officials advise citizens that roofing contractors are required to be registered with the State of Oklahoma Construction Industries Board in order to do work within the City of Owasso.
Licensed Roofing Contractors should be able to produce their orange State Registration cards and provide their State Registration number, if asked.
