KRMG Launches STEMtember

KRMG is proud to partner with the Tulsa Regional STEM Alliance on STEMtember presented by Oklahoma Central Credit Union, Academy Sports + Outdoors, Papa Murphy’s and USA BMX Foundation. STEMtember is a month of free hands-on, curiosity-driven activities that can be completed at home or at school. The activities are designed to help children see how science, technology, engineering and math work in our everyday lives and encourages them to ask more questions to grow their love of STEM.

Each week of STEMtember will feature a new and exciting virtual learning opportunity. You can attend one or all four – it’s up to you!

Week 1 – Family Night at the Gathering Place - sponsored by ONEOK.

The Gathering Place will be distributing STEM in Bag kits starting September 1st through the end of the month. Visit the park’s information desk in the Lodge and you will receive a bag filled with one of three different STEM activities, the link to our virtual STEMtember passport featuring local opportunities to explore STEM at work in Green Country, and a map that shows the different STEM elements behind your favorite attractions at the Gathering Place. Can’t make it to the park? You can still participate in a marble run, bridge building and tower building activity online. Click HERE to watch videos explaining the challenges and the simple items from your house that you will need to complete them.

Week 2 – Teacher Night. September 10, 2020 - sponsored by TD Williamson and QuikTrip.

Teacher Night is a virtual education opportunity for teachers with a focus on inclusion in the classroom. Teachers are encouraged to register to participate in a free evening that will include an esteemed guest panel and an opportunity to ask questions. The panelists include Laura Latta, Director of Post-Secondary Partnerships and Research at ImpactTulsa, and Dr. Dewayne Dickens, Director of Culturally Responsive Practices at Tulsa Community College. They will address inclusion questions including: how to make your classroom a welcoming space for all, how to deal with difficult conversations around race or other lines of difference in the classroom, and how to promote equity and diversity when you teach a subject that doesn’t lend itself to these conversations. Registration is required to attend and space is limited. Click here to save your spot.

Week 3 – Video Release. September 14, 2020

The STEMtember videos are a great way to infuse a quick 5 – 10 minute STEM lesson into your day. Each of these videos feature Tulsa-area professionals who are in the STEM field and use science, technology and math every day. The videos feature glassblowers, athletes, arborists and other professions you might not think work with STEM in their daily lives. Click HERE to see a menu of videos to select from.

Week 4 – Flight Night Back to School STEM Expo. September 25, 2020

The Flight Night Back to School STEM Expo is expanding this year. The event will have a virtual element that features exhibitors showing giving demonstrations on how they use STEM and an opportunity to expand your knowledge at home. Teachers, homeschool parents and distance learning parents can register to pick up a STEM in a Bag kit to replicate some of these experiments at home. Click HERE to register for these kits and check back to watch the demonstrations on September 25th.

STEM education doesn’t stop at the end of the month. The Tulsa Regional STEM Alliance has resources available all the time on their website: tulsastem.org. Visit the site often to get inspiration on how to grow a love of science, technology, engineering and math in your child. KRMG is proud to support the work of the Tulsa Regional STEM Alliance and to help make these exciting opportunities available to everyone.
